Travel information

Thanks to its central location in the heart of Switzerland, the holiday destination is quick and easy to get to, making it an ideal springboard for excursions into the mountains around Lake Lucerne, as well as to Lucerne, Zurich and the Bernese Oberland – whether by car, boat or bus.

Arrival by boat

Take the boat and your holiday already begins on your journey to the resort!

From Lucerne, you can travel in comfort on either a nostalgic steamboat or an elegant motorboat to Weggis/Vitznau in just under an hour.

A boat trip, whether short or lasting several hours, is a wonderful excursion. The boat is the perfect way to travel to the various historic places and numerous mountain railways located around Lake Lucerne.

Arrival by train and bus

There is a half-hourly bus service on the Lucerne Riviera, line 502 of the AAGS, in the direction of Küssnacht and Brunnen. The nearest train station is in Küssnacht am Rigi.

Arrival by car

The holiday resorts at the foot of the Rigi are quick and easy to reach by car. Küssnacht am Rigi is on the A4 motorway (Zurich, Lucerne, Basel and Gotthard). From there it's about 10 kilometres along the lake route to Weggis/Vitznau.

Arrival by plane

The nearest airports are Zurich-Kloten (70 km), Basel-Mulhouse (140 km), Milano-Malpensa (250 km) and Geneva (290 km). The Weggis Vitznau Rigi holiday region is easily accessible by public transport or rental car.

Parking

Parking in Weggis

There are various parking facilities for private motorized vehicles in Weggis, two parking garages in the village and two car parks at the Weggis - Rigi Kaltbad cable car valley station. Parking on sunny weekends can be scarce due to the many day-trippers visiting the resort.

Parking Rigi

There are car parks at the Rigi Railway stations in Vitznau and Weggis. The Rigi itself is car-free and can only be reached by cogwheel railway and aerial cableway, or you can hike up to the Queen of the Mountains.

Parking in Vitznau

There are two Rigi Railways parking garages in Vitznau. One "Seestrasse", 100 metres from the valley station, and the other "Altdorfbachweg", 250 metres from the valley station.  Additional parking spaces are located at the old schoolhouse, Unteraltdorf and Zberg in the village.

As the distances involved are relatively short, getting around the Lake Lucerne Region is easy – by boat, bus, and train.
