Chapel
The small chapel directly on the road with a shingle tower and a canopy facing the road was built in 1909 by Ludwig and Justus Stalder, two Weggis citizens.
The shell of the room and the furnishings have remained unchanged since then. The two paintings in the choir area, the windows, the flagstone floor and the benches also belong to the original furnishings. The Verena Chapel was built to commemorate the rockslide in Weggis in 1795. Five windows illuminate the simple interior. The altarpiece depicts Mary holding her dead son Jesus Christ in her hands. Angels with floral ornaments are painted on each side. The walls are coloured red with golden decorations. There are six simple wooden benches on each side. Above the entrance hangs a picture of St Verena, who gave the chapel its name. Embedded in a starry sky is the large ceiling painting depicting the rockslide in Weggis in 1795. The interior of the Verena Chapel is a 100-year-old, untouched ensemble with a strong aura. Such untouched works of art are rare and this gem should therefore be preserved for decades to come. The chapel is open during the day and offers space for 40 people.
