The largest Swiss flag in Central Switzerland overlooks Vitznau in summer!

Every year, the striking landmark is mounted on a steel cable scaffold by around 30 volunteers on the Steigelfadbalm-Dossen. Around 300 metres of steel cables and 200 drill anchors are attached to the rock for the support system.

The flag is made of air-permeable material in order to withstand the powerful gusts of wind and large temperature fluctuations on the rock. The flag is made up of six parts that are joined together. In total, the flag measures 31 x 31 metres. The total weight of the Swiss flag is around 750 kilograms.

History

A large Swiss flag was mounted on the Steigelfadbalm-Dossen, a large rocky outcrop in the Rigi massif, for the first time in 2000 to mark the Swiss national day. The location for the Swiss flag could not have been better chosen - on one of the most beautiful leisure mountains in the world, surrounded by an imposing backdrop.
