Over 30 top-class formations will play over 100 hours of folk music in 15 concert venues at the Heirassa Festival Weggis in June.
Switzerland's biggest folk music festival offers folk music at the highest level. Swiss musicians Carlo Brunner and Willi Valotti are responsible for the programme.
History
The Heirassa-Festival was founded in memory of the local performer, composer and folk musician Alois Schilliger. Schilliger composed the famous Heirassa Polka in 1954. Later he founded the Ländlerkapelle Heirassa and was himself called Heirassa. The term has become a seal of quality for the best folk music.
Since the death of Alois Schilliger in 2004, well-known folk musicians from near and far have been playing the alphorn or the hammered dulcimer for four days in the summer. Alois "Heirassa" Schilliger watches over the merry goings-on in his home community - cast in bronze in the pavilion by the lake, sitting at his beloved piano.
