Market

The biggest chestnut market in German-speaking Switzerland.

The lovingly designed Cheschtene-Chilbi in Greppen invites you to stroll around at the end of October and broaden your culinary horizons. There is far more to discover than just "hot chestnuts": In addition to pastries, pasta and chestnut honey, beer and liqueur are also made from chestnuts. Over sixty market and food stalls showcase the many uses of chestnuts.

History

Chestnuts have become less important on the Swiss menu. Just 120 years ago, the revenue from chestnuts in the Weggis region was greater than from milk. Before the cultivation of potatoes from South America, chestnuts were an essential part of meals in Switzerland. IG Pro Kastanie Zentralschweiz provides information about the importance of chestnuts and therefore launched the Cheschtene-Chilbi in Greppen.
