Excursion
A boat trip on Lake Lucerne is an experience for explorers and connoisseurs.
The natural diversity of Lake Lucerne is unique. Due to its winding shape, the landscape changes every time the boat turns around a headland into the next lake basin. From the holiday resorts of Weggis and Vitznau, the route takes you to the city of Lucerne or to the dramatic fjord landscape in Lake Uri.

Five historic paddle steamers and 14 elegant saloon motorboats are part of the shipping company's fleet. You have the choice of travelling around the lake in a nostalgic Art Nouveau saloon or on a state-of-the-art yacht with a convertible roof. The delicacies from the galley double the pleasure of the cruise.

Excursion mountains on the lake

The boat takes you to numerous excursion destinations and mountain railways located directly on the lake, such as Rigi, Pilatus, Bürgenstock and Seelisberg. But the boat is also the perfect means of transport for many other excursions. And in winter, you can travel by boat directly to the valley stations of the winter sports resorts of Klewenalp and Rigi.

Facts & Figures Lake Lucerne

Name

The name of Lake Lucerne has its origins in the historic four "Waldstätten", the three original cantons of Unterwalden, Schwyz and Uri and the canton of Lucerne, which surround Lake Lucerne.

Size

The lake is 114 km² in size, is 214 m deep and lies at an altitude of 433 m above sea level.

Establishment

Lake Lucerne formed as a glacial lake around 12,000 years ago at the end of the Ice Age.

Inflows / Outflows

The Reuss with its confluence at Flüelen and Seedorf, the Sarner Aa at Alpnachstad, the Engelberger Aa at Buochs and the Muota at Brunnen are the main tributaries of Lake Lucerne. The Reuss flows at a steep gradient from the Gotthard massif and carries large quantities of bedload with it, so that the Reuss delta has expanded over time by 10 kilometres to the north into Lake Uri.

Lake Lucerne has one outflow: the Reuss. This leaves the lake in Lucerne, controlled by a regulating weir.
